Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): EcoRI--20.0, 15.0, 12.0, 1.2; HindIII--23.0, 12.0, 5.8, 2.6, 2.0; BamHI--9.0, 5.0, 4.4 (triplet), 2.9, 2.6, 2.5, 2.1, 2.0, 1.6, 1.05, 0.86, 0.42; PvuI--17.0, 15.0, 5.2, 2.7, 1.9; PstI--18.0, 9.6, 8.4, 6.7, 5.4, 4.0. A 1.3 kb EcoRI fragment of the clone can be used to detect a variant 12.0 kb TaqI fragment. This sequence is closely linked to D1S85. The TaqI polymorphism has been typed in the following CEPH families: 1331, 13293, 13291, 1424, 13294, 13292. The allele frequencies recorded for the TaqI polymorphism were determined in a Caucasian population. Distinct frequencies have been determined in Negro and Bushman (San) populations.
